The inaugural H&8th Outdoor Food Market was shut down by inspectors from at least 5 state and local agencies Friday night, approximately 20 minutes after its 8pm start time.
The event was to be a food truck block party of sorts, with food from Hugo’s Tacos, Big Truck Tacos, Cuppies and Joe, Elemental Coffee, beer on tap from COOP Aleworks and cocktails from Ludivine.
Inspectors from the City County Health Department, the State Health Department, the ABLE Commission, and the City of OKC cited several trucks for electrical issues and improper licenses. One spectator claimed to have counted at least 40 inspectors.
“Party is over. Sorry – call your council person & complain!!”, the organizers tweeted at 9pm.
The agencies involved were not available to comment at press time, but the City and the City-County Health Department have been zealous in enforcing codes on mobile food vendors, shutting down more than 29 in one sweep last summer.
Organizers said they intend to address all possible issues and try again on September 30th.

It’s absolutely unacceptable that they attacked this event so swiftly. I highly doubt ALL the trucks had ‘electrical issues’, and it’s been stated that the food trucks had all the proper licensing, but it seems like the inspectors are saying otherwise.
I don’t understand why they are so harsh on food trucks, they are the next big THING happening! Go with the flow Oklahoma and let good things happen!
Oklahoma is always last to get on board with anything. Food trucks are the next BIG thing as someone else posted, and we as Oklahomans need to stand up! Its not just food trucks, its everything. We need to quit allowing others to choose for us to come in last and to be behind on everything. Im sure it was all about money somehow. Local restaurants probably dont like the fact that food trucks are operating and they probably have their people working for them in the licensing enforcement agencies. Same reason the bricktown association dosent want food trucks down in B-town. Its a shame.
