Ryder (164281) is a 10-month-old male Lab mix and is really as sweet as can be. He is very well-behaved for a dog his age and is obedient and loves cuddles. Ryder is having his neuter surgery on Friday (2/21) and will be available for adoption that afternoon.

All of pets are sterilized prior to adoption. They also receive vaccinations; worming; tests for diseases such as heartworms, feline leukemia, and feline AIDS.
When pets are spayed or neutered at the animal shelter they are tattooed with their shelter identification number. This provides a permanent ID for the pet that the shelter can look up, and lets community vets know the animal is sterilized.
When you adopt a dog from the animal shelter you can attend four free dog obedience classes on consecutive Saturday afternoons to help you train your new pet and to learn how to deal with basic behavior issues. Classes are taught by a volunteer from the Oklahoma City Dog Obedience Training Club!
They frequently have other companion animals and livestock for adoption, such as gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, reptiles, birds and more.
Things to consider when selecting a pet.
A dog or a cat? Dogs and cats have very different personalities and temperaments. Cats are more independent than dogs but also need the same active care.
What breed? Every breed has its own characteristics. For instance, you may prefer a pet with short hair. Learn about the behavior and physical characteristics of the breed you’re considering.
Do you have enough room? Large dogs generally don’t do well in small apartments or places without a backyard. Select a pet that “fits” your home.
Does your lifestyle accommodate a pet? While owning a pet is a lot of fun, it is also a responsibility that lasts many years. Be sure you can provide proper care before adopting a pet.

Animal Birth Control (ABC) Project
A portion of the shelter’s adoption fees underwrite the cost of the City’s Animal Birth Control (ABC) Project. The ABC Project pays to sterilize dogs and cats belonging to residents of Oklahoma City in an effort to save lives and reduce shelter intake over time. There are no income guidelines and pets are sterilized on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact us at 316-3663 for more information and an appointment. Surgery days are normally on Saturdays at local spay/neuter clinic. Spays and neuters can be safely performed at two pounds and two months. Pets can go home the same day. Vaccinations and other procedures are at the owner’s expense.
