Robot Saves City Returns to Opolis!

Picture 2Robot Saves City Presents Comedy at the Opolis Saturday, March 26th in Norman. The showcase will be the second in a series of live tapings this year from the independent comedy label.

Comedians Spencer Hicks, Kristin Rand, Bradchad Porter, Anthony Cavazos, and Dan Skaggs will all perform.

Rand, who once lived in Norman but is now based in Denver, said she’s excited for the show.

“I lived in Norman for 7 years. The town sucks you in. I love and miss it dearly,” she said. “I want to show [audiences in Norman] some new stuff I’ve been working on… I am so excited to be back with everyone I started out with.”

Comedians like Spencer Hicks are also excited to join Rand that evening. The Loony Bin Comedy Club recently named Hicks funniest comedian in Oklahoma City and his recent gigs include opening for Paul F. Tompkins.

“The Opolis is a great place to perform. That’s why so many great bands make their way to that stage. [It] has a very indie feel to it, and the people that show up are there to have a great time. I can’t wait to get back on their stage,” Hicks said.

Norman comic and RSC founder, James Nghiem, will host the event. Nghiem is excited for a different reason, citing the tapings and the eventual releasing of Robot Saves City Presents Comedy Mixtape Volume 1 later this year.

“I’m a huge fan of stand-up compilations like Invite Them Up and Comedy Death-Ray. They’re a good way to expose people to a lot of different types of comedy and personalities. That’s how I first heard of Aziz Ansari, Ian Edwards, Mindy Kaling, Mike Birbiglia and so on. I really want to introduce people to the comics that will be featured on this mixtape. I really do. Because they’re some of my favorite funny people and people in general,” said Nghiem.

Doors for the event open at 9 p.m.  The show will cost $5 at the door and there will be $2 surcharge for those younger than 21 years old.
