Robot Saves City, a Norman-based comedy label, will be recording a stand-up compilation to submit to Sirus XM radio Saturday, January 15, at the Opolis in Norman. The show is the first scheduled in a series of showcases that will feature comedians who either live in or were originally from Oklahoma.
The comedians performing this Saturday could be considered a who’s who of upcoming stand-ups. They have worked with the likes of Doug Benson (Best Week Ever, Super High Me), Paul F. Tompkins (Mr. Show, Tenacious D), Todd Barry (Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Dr. Katz), Dat Phan (Last Comic Standing Season 1 winner) and Kyle Kinane, whose album Death of the Party was named Best Comedy album of 2010 by Amazon.com .
Saturday’s show is notable for featuring both Spencer Hicks and Leah Kayajanian: two comics that were named Oklahoma’s funniest person by the Loony Bin Comedy Club in 2010 and 2009 respectively.
Derek Smith, a current Chicago resident who has recently garnered gigs at Second City, will also perform.
Norman favorites James Draper and James Nghiem round out the line-up. Local emcee Kash Money will host the event.
“There’s a lot of great stand-up coming to Oklahoma later this year, but there’s something about comedy at Opolis that has me crazy excited right now,†Nghiem said.
Doors for the event open at 9 p.m. The show will cost $5 at the door and there will be $2 surcharge for those younger than 21 years old.
