Remember when we told you about The Paramount last week? You can check it out for free at the screening of this short indie documentary.
Who is putting this on? The “Skywriters” documentary is a film made by Oklahomans for Oklahomans. Danny Marroquin juxtaposes two Oklahoman musicians, Grammy Nominee for Best Americana Album John Fullbright and hip hop artist Jabee Williams. Even though their styles of music are completely different, their lives and music have overlapping themes of struggle and hope. Marroquin said that he wanted a way to unite rural and urban Oklahoma. And both Fullbright and Jabee are musicians who are the very embodiment of their communities. At the end of the day, it’s about finding “soul music.â€
What you can expect: You’ll roll up to Film Row in downtown Oklahoma City. Park. Follow the line of people. You might consider donating a dollar or two as donations will be happily accepted. Marroquin will have chapbook-style programs for guests. Then you’ll find your seat and wait for the magic to happen. You can stick around for an audience Q&A that starts at 8:00 p.m. and later Jabee performs at 9:00 p.m. Check The Paramount’s menu if you’re feeling peckish at any point. They have movie fare and regular food, but mostly pies (ala The Pie Junkie) and cookies. They serve alcohol and coffee, so we’re talking the best of the best right here. Sweets and booze, what’s not to love? They stop serving at 9:00 p.m.
