Premiere on Film Row is set to celebrate the season at its last street festival of the year from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, along W. Sheridan Avenue between Dewey and Shartel avenues downtown.
Premiere on Film Row, sponsored by Fowler Honda of Norman, is a family- and pet-friendly event on the third Friday of each month, year-round, featuring film screenings, live music, and art exhibitions. There is no cost to attend.
Dunlap Codding, a patent, trademark and copyright law firm located at 609 W. Sheridan Ave., is creating a winter wonderland for families. For those with a sweet tooth, FoodieRobots and Gold Plated will host a spread of holiday cakes, cookies and candies. The winter market is the place to find those last minute holiday gifts, featuring creations from local artisans like Bisby candles and Kahoy Studios. A tent will be available for revelers to relax.
The Paramount, a coffee bar at 701 W. Sheridan Ave., will help attendees get in the holiday spirit by showing “It’s a Wonderful Life†in the theater starting at 5:45 p.m. Families can stop and listen to carolers outside the Paramount from 6 to 8 p.m. while enjoying apple cider or hot mulled wine. Those looking for a little holiday cheer can take in the Oak City Comedy and Improv troupe in the theater at 8 p.m. Joe Burleigh will provide the soothing sounds of the season in the café from 7 to 9 p.m.
Computerized Business Solutions, a residential and small business IT solutions firm located at 624 W. Sheridan Ave., will offer free horse-drawn carriage rides.
Individual Artists of Oklahoma, a nonprofit art gallery at 706 W. Sheridan Ave., will host a public white elephant gift exchange. Bring that tacky sweater Aunt Hilda gave you last year and try your luck. The gallery also is hosting “The Company You Keep,†an exhibition featuring local photographers, painters and poets. Additional gallery exhibitions include “The Red State Project,†a collection of photographs and personal stories of those affected by HIV/AIDS in Oklahoma.
Film Row is the last remaining film exchange district in the U.S. Beginning in 1907, Hollywood studios including Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Fox Films had operations in the 42-block area between Classen Boulevard and Walker Avenue along Sheridan Avenue. Film exchanges served the film industry as distribution centers, where theater owners came to view and lease films. Film Row was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
